Forensic Science Service Contract

Posted December 01 2011

OVERVIEW

Following the well-documented press coverage regarding the changes to government funding, the Forensic Science Service (FSS) has taken steps to consolidate their national archive. The FSS, who provide a comprehensive service from crime scene to courtroom, analyse more than 120,000 cases each year.

Having worked with the FSS on several projects previously, Trills were put forward as the preferred contractor to carry out works to create the national archive. Trills previous experience of working within the high security environment and knowledge of the restricted access procedures enabled a speedy mobilization to site. Located at an undisclosed location in the Midlands the 3600 sq metre facility is being fitted out with specialist racking, freezer storage units including all the associated electrical and mechanical installations as required. The works are being staged over 3 phases to enable the FSS to decant the stored evidence and documentation from their current locations and re-archive in the minimum time. Working within the live environment requires Trills to accurately programme all scheduled works whilst adhering to the strict management of Health & Safety procedures.

The final part of the phased programme planned to complete early in 2012 will also include the creation of new offices within the facility.
